School Year 2009/ 2010

- Junior infants, senior infants and first class visited Kilcolgan Castle where they had a tour of the castle, the farm, saw the bell and of course had lots of fun on the grounds.

- Pony rides were only part of the attraction. Big thanks to Karen, Tony and Orla for a memorable day.

- The children visited the nursing home and entertained the residents with a selection of Irish songs.

- As part of Holi (the Hindu spring festival of colour) the children painted each others faces. Hindus throw coloured powder and water at each other at this time.

- Junior Infants learned all about birthday celebrations around the world. Here they are smashing their pinata.

- On the first of February the children learned all about St. Brigid and made crosses out of rushes. See our display on the stairs.

- Even teachers go to schoool! Mary organised science training for teachers on a Saturday and we came back to school to test our thinking skills and experiment with scientific concepts. The course was very kindly run by Lorraine McCormack who is undertaking her PhD in CASE (Cognitive Accelaeration through Science Education)

- Eimear’s class took us to the Caribbean for our End of Term Concert and brought us back home with some seasonal songs played on the fiddle.

- A special visitor came to talk to the children

- Anna’s class made a paper maché Frosty the Snowman

- Eimear’s class visited Telegael and TG4 and the children had a chance to read ‘An Nuacht’

- The mayor visits our geology stand at the Galway Science and Technology Festival. Well done to the teachers and children for a great display!

The children enjoy some board games as part of National Board Game Playing Week and raise money for local charity 'Voices for Galway' in the process.

Cartoonist and sculptor Ken Lee shows the children some sculpting basics

A maths trail around the school was also part of maths week. In this photo skills in algebra are tested as the children create a pattern as outlined on a challenge card.

As part of maths week the children in Eimear's class visited the other classrooms to play maths games with the younger children. Great fun was had by all and of course there were plenty of learning opportunities.

As part of the themes 'food' and 'harvest', the children in Anna's class baked brown scones to share. They also made their own butter. Because it was maths week too, they learned all about measuring and weighing looking at lots of different scales and carefully measuring out ingredients.

Poet Terry McDonagh visits the school and teaches the children all about the writing process

Eimear's class in Kilcornan where they are working with adults with learning disabilities in the creation of an art project for the centre

A giant shark is only a small part of our 'Sense of the Sea' art exhibition which is part of the Clarinbridge Arts Festival. Do visit the school to take an adventurous trip to the underwater deep.

The children enjoy their lunch in our sukkah. A big thanks to Aoife and Philip for their help with the building of it.
School Year 2008/ 2009

Alexis came to talk to the children about photography. They then put his advice to good use and took their own photographs which were exhibited.

Following a parent's talk to the children about geology we went to visit the geological exhibition in the University of Galway. We were so enthusiastic we even set up our own exhibition in school.
