International day 2014
It was time for International Day on Friday 23rd May.........and it was brilliant again this year. It was as if we got to go around the world in an hour. Lots of people dressed up in national costumes and the parents showed us lots of really cool things from their countries. We also got to taste lots of different, yummy dishes from all around the world. We had a fantastic day and already can't wait for next year!.
Marietta's mammy Natasha is from Greece. Here is Marietta with her family and Isabelle. Natasha made scrummy tzatziki....Fionnuala was very happy!!!.
Edwin's family helped with the Indian stand. They all dressed in traditional clothes and Priya, Edwin's mammy wore a beautiful sari.
Daniella helped her mammy Patricia who is from Zimbabwe on her stand. Daniella wore some beautiful traditional jewellery from Zimbabwe.
James' daddy is from the United States of America but he couldn't join us on the day so James and his mammy Eleanor took over and did a super job of telling us about the USA. Their bowl of Oreo cookies was particularly popular!!!.
Annabel went to the Pakistan stand where Mujtaba's mammy Farah was very busy drawing henna designs on lots and lots of hands. She was busy for hours as everyone wanted one of her fabulous designs.
Student Led Conferences
Nuala sharing her wonderful work during her Student Led Conference
We showed our families some of our work. We read a book, showed our writing, told our guests about a science experiment, did a maths activity and lots more. We finished by showing them an Ipad app from the apps we've been using at 'stations' time.

Farmer Duck
Cillian's daddy Martin brought some young ducklings to visit us. He told us about the ducklings and allowed us all to have a turn to rub a duckling. We were careful to clean our hands well afterwards. Martin also brought in a fan tailed pigeon and a tumbler pigeon. The ducklings were lovely and fluffy!.
Materials in Science
Badminton with Balloons
Derek and Annette came and taught us how to play badminton. We used special balloons instead of shuttlecocks at the beginning. It was great fun and good exercise too!.
Visiting the Doctor
We set up a hospital during Aistear time. Hana and Cillian filled in their patient details while in the waiting room and Dr. Nuala saw to the patients in a timely fashion. Emily was on hand for nursing duties.
European Day of Languages
Our families speak lots of different languages. Here are some of our parents sharing them with us.
Trip to Coole Park
for a picnic with 5th/6th class
What's in the box?
We all put some of our favourite things from when we were babies right up 'til now into a box and we each had a chance to share our special boxes with everyone else. It was a great way to learn things about our new friends.
