There are many people who make up the school community and there are many bodies and voices that feed into the decisions made. We always aim to keep the children at the heart of all decisions we make. This is what makes us a child-centred school. Every child has a voice and they have a variety of channels through which to make their voice heard and their opinion count.
The Board of Management are ultimately responsible for the management of the school. The Principal is responsible for the day to day running and management of the school.
The Board of Management and the school staff take directions and guidance from Educate Together, as our Patron, and the Department of Education as our employer.

In a democratic school and a school that encourages parental involvement it is vital that parents feel supported and part of the school community. We have a Parents Association made up exclusively of current parents in the school. They run events and activities for children and parents with the aim of supporting families through networking, providing fun and also supporting initiatives run in the school or classrooms. Two parent representatives sit on the Board of Management.
The staff in the school work very hard to try and ensure that every child in our school is happy and respected and that they can learn in an environment that values them. They feed back to the Board of Management through the staff representative and the Principal. The Staff and Board of Management hold periodic facilitated meetings in which the vision for the school and current issues are discussed.
Within the school body there are many different committees. Some are fluid and will set up for a brief time to fulfil a specific purpose (such as committee organising a winter or summer fair), others are more permanent (such as the Green Schools or Active Schools Committees). More permanent committees however generally endeavour to recruit new members on a regular basis. Committees may have adult or child members on them, or a combination of both.

The wider community around Kilcolgan and Clarinbridge also feeds in to school life. The school loves to get involved in local and national initiatives and we are always delighted to work with another community group. We have some strong links with other community groups such as the Brothers of Charity, SCCUL Foundation, Burren Beo etc. Nationally we get involved in projects such as the Primary Science and Maths awards. The children are also very aware of the global environment they live in and regularly initiate fundraisers for global concerns such as the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders etc. and cover topics regarding global issues such as Fairtrade as part of their curriculum.
