Such an exciting day- Our Active School Flag arrived in the post and we celebrated with extra yard time for the whole school! The Active School Committee were especially proud and are looking forward to planning our next event already!

Carla trains in Judo and she took part in the Friendship Inclusion Games in Nenagh in Tipperary on Saturday. She came second in her category! We're very proud!
Grace McNally trains with Galway Judo Club and on Sunday she went down to Swords in Dublin for the Leinster Open. She did four fights and won a gold medal!

This year we teamed up with Loughrea Tennis Club for the first time and each class from 1st to 6th recieved 6 to 8 sessions of tennis lessons. It was wonderful for our pupils to try something new!

Our Active School Committee out trialing our Active School Walkway for the first time!
We are so excited to have our Active school Walkway up and running. Above is a picture of where each control point is placed both in and around our school grounds, while below our third class Active School committee members are out measuring the distance between each control point.
Junior infants have teamed up with our local Spring Clean to give our grounds a good tidy!

Adrian Penado-Callejas in 5th class brought his basketball medal in yesterday. His team, St Colman's won the Galway League on Sunday. There were 8 teams playing. Such a wonderful achievement!
Such a fantastic oppprtunity to have tennis lessons at school from the wonderful coaches from Loughrea Tennis Club. Each class from 1st to 6th will participate in a 6 week programme covering the basics of tennis in a fun and inclusive way.

This is Tilli with her medal from her recent kickboxing match. It took place in Galway city, in the Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym last Monday 21st February. Tilli is an orange belt and she fought against a blue belt (three belts ahead of her!).
This is Lacey, she boxes for Monivea Boxing Club and she is now boxing for Connaught. She trains three times a week!

Our Partnership with our local Simon Community-
While we don't have a school hall here at KETNS we are lucky to be able to partner up with the Brothers of Charity locally and they kindly allow us to use their hall from time to time. An indoor space is more suitable to implement some of the PE strands and Senior Infants make great use of their time here.
A Tai Chi session with Master Bartley was such a treat for 5th Class - It was enjoyed by all despite the grey weather!
Volleyball is new to our school this year. We are very lucky to have Coach Lee working with 5th and 6th class to learn some new skills. October 2021

Our First Active Schools Flag!
We are so proud to have achieved our first Active School Flag this year! It was a wonderful achievement to celebrate as a whole school. The Flag was raised by the sixth class members of the Active Schools Committee, while other members of the committee said a few words to recap on all of our physical activities this academic year. We then had a disco in the yard, bubbles and free play to celebrate our new flag. A great afternoon was had by all!
3rd and 4th Class Hurling Blitz
Today our 3rd and 4th Class boys participated in a Hurling Blitz in Loughgeorge. They had a great day out playing against other schools and were very proud to wear their school jerseys.
Our Forest School
Here at Kilcolgan Educate Together we are very proud to have two trained Forest School leaders and wonderful parent volunteers who work with Second Class to deliver outdoor education through Forest School. It takes place in our beautiful surrounding woodlands every second Friday. Forest school encourages and supports the development of confidence and self-esteem, social skills, motivation, concentration and physical skills. It complements the Outdoor and Adventure Strand of the PE curriculum and our journey to achieve our Active Flag. You can check out their adventures by clicking below.

A wonderful day out at the FAI Schools Soccer Blitz. Today we traveled to Salthill Devon Park to play other teams in the county. It was our first year participating in the FAI Schools competition and a great day was had by all!
Third Class Hurling Sessions are off to a great start!
Above we have pictures of 3rd Class enjoying the first of 10 hurling sessions with local coach David Huban from Galway GAA. A great start on a beautiful day and we are looking forward to seeing them develop their skills!
Fourth Class participate in local Rugby Blitz
Our 4th class students took part in the local Rugby Blitz in Gort. A great day was had by all! All our 4th, 5th and 6th class students have had the opportunity to try rugby at school this term with a local IRFU Coach.
Fifth Class receive Cycle Right coaching- Such an important life skill!
Our 5th Class working with CYCLE RIGHT Ireland. CYCLE RIGHT is the National Standard for Cycle Training and provides practical cycle safety and skills training to promote competent and confident cyclists. CYCLE RIGHT is an inclusive programme.
