We are so lucky to have Forest School here at our school. It links in perfectly with our Outdoor and Adventure strand. Balance, coordination, team work and so many other fundamental movement skills are developed through play at Forest School.

Our wonderful tennis coach Billy is back to work with 1st to 6th class. Each class gets an opportunity to practise their striking skills while working on their fitness and learning the basic rules of tennis. Billy will be giving 4 sessions to each class level. Such a great opportunity!

All of our classes took on active school tours, but sixth class took on the Outdoor and Adventure strand with style with an overnight action packed stay in Petersburg.

As part of our focus on the Athletics strand this year First and second class are taking part in the 'Road to Beijing' challenge where they record their physical activity which is then converted to Kilometers. They then map their way from Ireland to Beijing! A wonderful way to connect with this years Winter Olympics while working on our own physical fitness.

We are so lucky to have Kilcornan pool across the road from our school. Each class from 1st to 6th receives 8 weeks of swimming lessons each year from the wonderful swim teachers there.

Teachers CPD - Forest School Session
As we are focusing on developing the 'Outdoor and Adventure' strand of the PE curriculum we used one of our Croke Park sessions to explore our local forest with our two forest school leaders. We focused on activities that explored the 'Outdoor challenges' and 'Understanding and appreciation of outdoor adventure activities' strand units. This session also helped the rest of the staff understand more about the principals and benefits of Forest School.

Our 5th and 6th Class Active School committee members have made a great start on the re organisation of our PE Shed. A spring clean was needed!

Junior Infants took on our Solar System Trail and completed exercises at each new planet!
This year we are developing our Outdoor and Adventure strand of the PE curriculum. Our Junior Infants completed an 'Active Walk' around our Solar System trail. Students from our Active School committee helped by explaining a new fact about each planet and demonstrating a new exercise at each planet that we visited. We had lots of fun!
5th Class Treasure Hunt!
Our 5th class pupils used map reading skills, team work and research skills to find and follow clues to the hidden treasure! This was a wonderful introduction to orienteering as part of our 'Outdoor and Adventure' strand.
Senior Infants Solar System Trail
Our Senior Infants completed our Solar System Trail in the beautiful sunshine today. Our 6th Class Active School Committee member Sasha led the group. She also demonstrated all of the exercises expertly, as well as explaining a simple fact about each planet on our route.
