Welcome to Senior Infants
Yoga with Susie
Susie, Fern's mum, is a yoga teacher. We are very happy that she is teaching us some yoga moves. Look at us in action!
Democracy in Action!
We took part in the election process and got to vote for the book we wanted to read. We had a choice between two books. Tracey read the blurb from each before we voted for the one we thought sounded the most interesting. After three counts (to make sure it was precise) the result was 19 to 9 in favour of Jojo's Revenge. Thanks to James's mum, Eleanor for making the election box!
Minibeast Hunt!
In Senior Infants we have been learning all about minibeasts. Did you know that minibeasts with 6 legs are called insects? Minibeasts can be found in lots of different places. We had great fun searching for the minibeasts that live around our school.
Spring has Sprung
Spring is here! We have been busy observing the signs of Spring and created lovely pieces of artwork to celebrate this wonderful Season. With the help of 4th class, we planted herbs, carrots, turnips and strawberries. We are looking forward to see them grow.
KETNS Veterinary Surgery
Do you have a sick pet? Does your pet need a check up? If so you'll be happy to know that our veterinary surgery is now open Monday - Friday. Pop in or make an appointment, we'll do our best to help!
Lost!
We wrote about our lost pets in the writing area during Aistear. Please keep an eye out for these animals in your local area. (Don't worry we were pretending that we had lost a pet!)
We carried out a celery stick experiment in science. We wanted too see how plants absorbs water as water is very important in helping plants grow. Take a look at how we carried out our experiment.
The water with the food colouring was absorbed into the celery stalk, tinting the stem and leaves blue.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig
World Book Day
World Book Day was on the 5th of March so we celebrated by bringing our favourite book to school. We shared our book with the class and read each other experts from them.
Last week we had a very exciting visitor, a bat expert! We learned all about Irish bats and even got to hold specially preserved bats. Look at our pictures!
Sound
What can you hear?
We have been learning about sound and how different materials make different sounds depending on what they're made from. We tested a variety of items after predicting if they would make a loud or quiet sound when shaken.

We made shakers to use during music time!
Our Doctor's Surgery
A lot of people get colds and flu's this time of the year. Luckily we had lots of doctors and nurses to help us when we felt ill.
Snow is falling!
We made snow!
In science we mixed water with Sodium Polyacrylate and it was so exciting to see snow being made. We even built our own snowman.

Guzzler's Visit
Guzzler came to speak to us about saving energy. We thought of all the ways we can save save energy at home and in our school. We had great fun playing games with Guzzler.
Microscopes
Lillian and Rory's dad, Peter, is a scientist. He and his wife arranged for our school to get a loan of a box of microscopes so we could get to do lots of fun experiments. Peter came in one morning and showed our class how to use them. We used magnifying glasses and microscopes to study materials such as flour, salt, soil and sugar. After this we recorded our findings through drawing how the materials looked through just our own eyes and then through the specials lens. It was such fun!
Welcome to our Post Office
Our Aistear theme for November was the Post Office. This is a very busy time of year for postal workers and we had a lot of customers that needed to post letters and parcels.
We wrote postcards for our friends in the writing area.
One day, a postman (Aoibhinn's dad, Brian) came to visit us and he told us all about his job. We saw how the postman/woman's uniform changed through the years. It was great to be able to ask him lots of questions and find out even more about what it is like to work for An Post. Brian is also an artist and he showed us some lovely pictures of inside his van.

2D Art
We had great fun making collage using different types of 2D shapes. Look at our pictures!
Maths Week
Maths Week was held in over 250,000 Irish schools from the 11th to the 19th October. KETNS was proud to be one of these schools involved. The Senior Infants teamed up with the pupils from 4th class and together had lots of fun solving math puzzles and even running a little shop.
Home Corner
Our Aistear theme for October was home. We transformed our role play station into a pretend kitchen.
Autumn Fun
We looked for signs of Autumn around our home and school environment. Look at all we found! We also had great fun painting Autumn trees. With the help of James's mum, we planted bulbs in our school garden. We hope to see lots of lovely flowers in Spring. Caoimhe even made delicious biscuits in the shape of squirrels. Yum!
Celebrating Languages
European Day of Languages 2014 was on the 26th of September. Ewen's dad visited our classroom and read us a story in Breton. This is a Celtic language spoken in Brittany, France. Some Breton words are the same as the words we use in Irish! James's au pair also came in and shared a story with us in Spanish. It was very interesting and enjoyable listening to different languages.
Elmer
Elmer was a patchwork elephant. He was different to all the other elephants. We learned that difference should be celebrated because we are all different. We are all special.
After we had read and spoke about the story, one of the activities we did was sequence pictures in the story from the beginning to the end. It was fun doing this with a friend!

Time for School
As it's September and we're all happy to be back at school, we thought it would be great fun to have our own school in our roleplay area. This was our Aistear (www.ncca.ie/en/Curriculum.../Aistear) theme for September. We also had great fun building schools in the construction area and loved using our imaginations to create fun pictures in Junk Art.
Colour Mixing
We have been learning all about colour. Red, Blue and Yellow are called primary colours. Did you know that if you mix two of these colours together, you will get a new colour? Here are some pictures of us experimenting with colour mixing!
This is what we discovered:
Red and Yellow = Orange
Red and Blue = Purple
Blue and Yellow = Green
